You’ve put on your favourite BOX briefs. You look in the mirror. Lovely. You open the camera.
Who authorised that lighting?
The colour’s gone flat, your waistband’s disappeared into shadow and the toilet cleaner has landed a supporting role. Before you change your pants, try this.
Find your light
That ceiling spotlight is doing you no favours. Stand near a window in soft daylight, facing towards it, then turn slightly. A small shift can change how the light catches your body and your underwear.
Avoid direct sunshine to start with. British cloud cover finally gets a thank-you.
Give yourself some distance
Holding the phone too close exaggerates whatever’s nearest the lens. You may have your own feelings about that, but the rest of the picture can look rather odd.
Try the normal 1× camera setting, step back and crop afterwards. For mirror shots, start with the phone around chest height and roughly upright.
Wipe the lens, too. A thumbprint isn’t a soft-focus filter.
Check the background
You. Your pants. Three empty shampoo bottles.
Look around the edges of the frame. Move the laundry, close the cupboard and wipe the mirror. A plain wall makes an easy backdrop.
Wearing darker briefs? Try a lighter background so their outline doesn’t disappear. Your arse deserves better than camouflage.
Give your new pants their moment
Our Performance Piping Briefs have landed in 4 new colours. Give them some daylight and a simple background so the colour gets the attention it deserves. Switch off yellow bathroom lights when using window light, then compare the colour on screen with what you’re wearing.
Trying our new Seamless Briefs? Keep the whole pair in the frame before cropping. You’ve just put them on. It would be a shame to give the bathroom tiles more space.
Know when you’ve got it
Take a few shots, changing one thing at a time. If holding the phone makes you tense, prop it securely and use the timer. Breathe out. Drop your shoulders.
A small crop or brightness adjustment may be all you need.
Good pants. Decent light. Toilet brush out of shot.
Now that’s more like it.
